BEFORE & AFTER

Q: What was the customer’s motivation to undertake the project?
A: The customer was looking for a showpiece bar to display their spirit collection and entertain guests, family and friends. Prior to the project being installed, the area was used as a second dining space. They believed the space would have added a more unique feel by featuring a dry bar and provide visitors with a flowing area between the beautiful living room and the outdoor entertainment space. Perfectly situated, really!
Q: What were the challenges encountered during the project’s execution?
A: Whilst the design was relatively easy, the installation part of the project reserved some complexity for the custom lighting Installation. Creating the seamless look desired by the customer, and accentuate the displaying of the content of each glass cabinet, were the challenging part. Also, glass cabinets add complexity in terms of hardware (i.e. pulls). The typical push-to-open system used for modern cabinetry, like the one featured in this project, is not ideal, as fingerprints will show more, especially when working with ice, syrups, etc. Yet, the selection of right hardware proved to be challenging. It was a true balance between esthetics and functionality.
Q: What would you recommend customers do in a similar remodeling project?
A: Customers seeking to create their own dry bar, should take into account the number of moving parts that need to come together, especially when seeking a more customized outcome. Also, consider the importance of lighting and its architectural aspect to set the desired mood and ambiance. Seek guidance from your designer, and include it in the scope of work, as it’s worth the final product!
Q: What were the high points of the project, for you?
A: The installation of the waterfall countertop for the island is a showstopper. Customers can shy away from this type of design, in a kitchen for several reasons, it is my recommendation for a bar. Also, design and coordinating the lighting installation was a treat. I loved seeing how pleased the customers were at the end of the project!
